Top 10 Esports Organisations in Portugal: Fact Files

The ten organisations that carry Portuguese esports, weighed across competitive success, heritage, brand reach and community, with a note on which could sell merchandise at all.

Brand reach sits with the football clubs, not with the esports orgs.

Five names carry the market: SAW (international CS success), K1CK (heritage), For The Win and Grow uP (creator communities), and the football clubs Sporting and Benfica (brand reach). For the merch pillar only SAW and the football clubs are likely to have real merchandise operations, and a SAW jersey is €65 against ~€24 for a Brazilian one.

"Biggest" depends on the axis. Portuguese orgs stand out on international success (SAW), age (K1CK, Grow uP), brand reach (the football clubs), and streamer community (Grow uP, FTW). This list weighs all of them. Caveat: rosters and active game divisions change constantly, and some historic names are past their competitive peak.

1. SAW

  • Founded: early 2020 (as an org-less team, from the ex–Giants Gaming core)
  • Based: Portugal
  • Main game: Counter-Strike 2 (their flagship and near-sole focus)
  • Why they matter: Portugal's most internationally successful current CS org. Won ESL Challenger Katowice 2024 and multiple Master League Portugal titles (S7, S9), with runner-up finishes in REPUBLEAGUE and ESL Masters España, and reached a CS2 Major cycle. Known for a professional culture (they employ a full-time sports psychologist) and as a talent factory: they've sold players to FlyQuest, 100 Thieves, Imperial, and BC.Game. Veteran star Ricardo "fox" Pacheco has been central to Portuguese CS through SAW.
  • Relevance: the closest thing Portugal has to a globally-known esports brand, and the aspirational top of the domestic scene.

2. K1CK (k1ck eSports Club)

  • Founded: 11 October 1998; one of the oldest esports organisations in the world
  • Based: Portugal (first legally registered Portuguese esports association, active since 2005)
  • Games (over time): Counter-Strike, League of Legends, FIFA, Apex Legends, Rocket League, Clash Royale
  • Why they matter: the historic giant of Portuguese esports, with 800+ awards. Dominated early CS (fox Pacheco was described as "the Ronaldo of K1CK") and LoL, and famously supplied all 11 players to Portugal's World Cyber Games 2007 national squad; Portugal's international CS:GO debut came with K1CK. Now well past its competitive peak, but its brand and legacy are unmatched domestically.
  • Relevance: the "heritage brand": huge name recognition with older fans, and useful historical context.

3. For The Win (FTW / For The Win Esports)

  • Founded: ~2012 (CS section active from 2014)
  • Based: Portugal
  • Games/divisions: CS2, VALORANT, League of Legends, EA FC
  • Why they matter: one of the most content- and community-forward PT orgs. In 2025 its Twitch presence numbered ~48 streamers (Portuguese and Brazilian), whose output spans CS2, GTA V, and even Music (the roster includes DJs). Competes across the domestic leagues while running a large creator ecosystem.
  • Relevance: strong model of the org-as-content-brand, directly relevant to your content pillar.

4. Grow uP eSports

  • Founded: 2002; one of the oldest clubs in Europe, and runs as a non-profit
  • Based: Portugal
  • Games: Free Fire, League of Legends, Counter-Strike, VALORANT, Fortnite
  • Why they matter: in 2025 it had the largest Twitch streamer roster of ANY esports org in the world, at 184 streamers (GTA V is the most-streamed game among them). Strong social mission: partnered with football club Casa Pia A.C. (Dec 2023) on inclusion, integration, and diversity projects using games.
  • Relevance: the community and creator heavyweight, and a case study in esports-for-social-good worth using for youth engagement.

5. Sporting CP Esports

  • Founded: 21 July 2016; the first Portuguese multi-sport football club to launch an esports section
  • Based: Lisbon
  • Games: EA FC / FIFA (core), competes in eLiga Portugal
  • Why they matter: football-club brand power meets esports. Their player Francisco "Quinzas" Cruz became the first Portuguese FIFAe World Cup champion. Sporting upgraded a dedicated esports facility in 2023, signalling serious investment.
  • Relevance: massive built-in fanbase, and the football-to-esports crossover is huge with Portuguese youth (with ties to EA FC, a top local title).

6. SL Benfica eSports

  • Founded: esports division of football giant SL Benfica
  • Based: Lisbon
  • Games: EA FC / eFootball (competes in eLiga Portugal); has fielded other titles over time
  • Why they matter: one of Portugal's two biggest football brands in the esports space, competing in the official eLiga Portugal (the LigaPortugal EA FC competition).
  • Relevance: enormous brand reach with young football fans, and a natural bridge between football fandom and gaming.

7. OFFSET Esports

  • Founded: 2017
  • Based: Portugal
  • Games: Counter-Strike 2, VALORANT, League of Legends (selected into the LPLOL in 2023)
  • Why they matter: an established mid-tier org and a development pipeline: players routinely move between OFFSET, FTW, and GTZ. A consistent presence in Master League Portugal.
  • Relevance: solid example of the domestic competitive ecosystem and player pathways.

8. GTZ Esports (formerly GTZ Bulls)

  • Founded: Portugal
  • Games: VALORANT, League of Legends, Counter-Strike (CS2 project ended 2025)
  • Why they matter: a local-league mainstay with a sizable streamer community (~62 in 2025) and a 2nd-place finish in a VCT Challengers League Portugal split (2023). More community-driven than internationally competitive.
  • Relevance: typical of the active domestic middle tier, and good for recruitment reach.

9. Karma Clan Esports

  • Founded: Portugal
  • Games: League of Legends (primary)
  • Why they matter: a recognised LoL org, selected into the LPLOL in 2023 (replacing Cidade Curiosa / Estoril Praia). Part of the core of Portugal's top domestic League scene.
  • Relevance: anchors the LoL side of the domestic picture, one of the key content games.

10. EgoBoys

  • Founded: Portugal
  • Game: Dota 2 (primary)
  • Why they matter: Portugal's most notable Dota 2 name, competing internationally: roughly $56,000 in tournament earnings across 14 events. Rare PT representation in the Dota scene.
  • Relevance: shows the breadth of the scene beyond CS/LoL/Valorant/FIFA, and gives a different-game data point.
